Wayne McGregor, resident choreographer at the Royal Ballet, is to create a large scale dance routine for the Big Dance festival, which will take place just prior to the 2012 Olympics. Big Dance is a biennial festival which was established back in 2006 by Arts Council England in partnership with the London Mayor's office, and is set to receive a £2.89 million from Legacy Trust UK to help the project expand.
Big Dance also have Big Plans for 2010, including a world record attempt, not least as part of the build up to 2012, by which time, says director Jacqueline Rose, she hopes to get three million Londoners to join in. Events (including McGregor's work) will take place at five hubs throughout the capital, each of which will be led by one of five different organisations: East London Dance, English National ballet, Greenwich Dance Agency, Siobhan Davies Dance and Sadler's Wells.
Big Dance 2010 takes place from 3 – 11 July.
