O'Leary to host 'Question Time' for the young folks

by thisweeknews 12. February 2010 11:56

Presenter Dermot O'Leary is to host a special edition of the BBC's 'Question Time' in an attempt to engage young people (and X Factor viewers?) with politics. It's part of a number of programmes aimed at bringing politics to 16 – 34 year-olds, which is interesting: I would have hoped that someone over thirty would already be pretty engaged with politics, and not need the presence of the likes of O'Leary to encourage them to care.

Anyway, the show, which goes out BBC3 on 3 March, will see an audience of first time voters question a panel featuring politicians from across the political spectrum. Danny Cohen, controller of BBC Three, said: "BBC Three has a unique role to play as the only youth-targeted British television channel with a regular and passionate commitment to current affairs. We have exciting plans to cover the build-up to the general election, and are keen to engage young people who may not typically watch political coverage. We're delighted to have Dermot O'Leary as our host for this programme. He is passionate about politics and hugely popular with young people".
