Joanna Lumley has received The Oldie magazine's Oldie Of The Year award in recognition of her high profile campaign to win UK residential rights for Gurkhas who served in the British army.
The award was presented at a ceremony in London by Terry Wogan, who himself won the Retirer of The Year gong. Artist Quentin Blake was honoured with Illustrator of the Year, whilst author PD James was named Handbagger Of The Year for her famously critical interview with BBC director general Mark Thomson when she was guest-editor on The Today Programme.
There's always an Oldie Of The Year award, but the other categories are newly made up each year. Previous winners of the main gong include Sir David Attenborough and Thora Hird.
