Jimmy Carr found guilty of speeding

by thisweeknews 13. January 2010 17:55

Jimmy Car has been found guilty of speeding. The conviction relates to an incident that took place back in April 2008 when the comedian drove through the Suffolk village of Boxford in his Bentley GT at 50mph, 10mph over the speed limit, and was caught by police using a speed gun. He's been given three points on his licence and a fine of £300, and has also been ordered to pay £1860 in prosecution costs.

Carr was not present at the hearing at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates' Court but his 'celebrity solicitor' Nick Freeman - aka Mr Loophole, thanks to his habit of getting his high profile clients cleared of their motoring offences - spoke to reporters outside court, explaining that Carr has 21 days to decide whether or not to appeal the conviction.

Crown Prosecution Service lawyer David Hutson said after the hearing: "We take motoring offences very seriously and driving over the legal speed limit means the driver poses a danger to other road users. We are pleased with today's verdict and hope it acts as a deterrent to other speeding motorists".
