Elaine Paige has commented on the recent spate of speaking-out from people like Ian McKellen and Harriet Walter, who think there should be more acting opportunities for more mature women. She doesn't especially agree, because she says people want to see the young and the beautiful rather than the aged and waffly.
Paige told The Stage: "As an audience member myself, watching a film, let's say, I don’t want to see a lot of old people waffling on really. I want to see youth and beauty, because, like any art form, you want it to be beautiful and wonderful, and to inspire you".
Well, I'm with McKellen and Walter on this one. Personally, I like watching older people perform, because they are often much better than young people, what with all that age and wisdom and experience, and everything. And who says age can't be beautiful?
